Cloudburst Triggers Kullu Landslide That Kills Five From One Family

Overview

  • The night-time landslide struck Sharmani village in Ghatu panchayat around 1:30 am after heavy rain described locally as a cloudburst.
  • Two houses were destroyed, with five relatives — Bresti Devi, Chunni Lal, Anju, Bhupesh and Jagriti — found dead and three others rescued with serious injuries.
  • The injured — Shiv Ram, Dharam Das and Kala Devi — were taken to Nirmand hospital as villagers, NDRF personnel and officials completed recoveries and secured the area.
  • District authorities arranged immediate relief, including temporary shelter, medical care and food supplies for the affected families.
  • State reports put the monsoon toll at 378 deaths with 684 roads closed on Tuesday, and the chief minister and deputy chief minister pledged assistance to those impacted.
