Cloudburst-Scale Rains Flood Eastern Telangana, Soak Paddy Stocks and Breach Embankments

  • Valigonda in Yadadri-Bhongir logged 190.8 mm of rain in three hours, with villages reporting knee-deep flooding that submerged homes, roads and bridges.
  • Parts of Yadadri-Bhongir, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Warangal, Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem were inundated as IMD issued yellow alerts with thunderstorms and gusts up to 40 km/h expected through the week.
  • Open storage yards at Nalgonda procurement centres were swamped, soaking thousands of quintals of paddy as officials moved to salvage, dry and protect stocks and prepare monetary assistance.
  • A breach at the Ellamma tank in Kurella, Atmakur mandal, flooded nearby farms and homes, with authorities initiating repairs after villagers warned of risks to other water bodies.
  • In neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, low-lying areas in the Godavari districts were flooded and about 1,500 acres of paddy in West Godavari were reported inundated as officials began damage enumeration and sanitation drives.
