Overview
- Clio announced on Wednesday that it acquired Learned Hand, a startup that builds an AI workspace for judges, clerks and court staff, and it did not disclose the deal terms.
- Learned Hand’s product connects to court case management systems, organizes filings, extracts key facts, and can draft bench memos and orders tailored to a court’s procedures.
- The technology is already deployed in multiple U.S. courts, including the Los Angeles County Superior Court, the Michigan Supreme Court, and trial courts in about 10 states.
- Clio recently hired judiciary leaders Pablo Arredondo and Bridget Mary McCormack and says it will continue to support Learned Hand’s existing pilots while integrating the product into its new judiciary unit.
- Clio plans to marry Learned Hand’s judge-facing tools with its vLex-derived legal-data and docket collections to ease courtroom bottlenecks caused by more pro se filings and faster legal workflows.
