Clintons to Sit for Videotaped House Depositions in Epstein Probe on Feb. 26–27

The agreement represents Congress’s first compelled testimony from a former president.

Overview

  • House Oversight Chair James Comer said the depositions will be filmed and transcribed, with Hillary Clinton scheduled for Feb. 26 and Bill Clinton for Feb. 27.
  • The deal followed a GOP noon deadline and threats of a criminal contempt vote, which Republican leaders said would proceed if terms were not signed.
  • The committee subpoenaed the Clintons in August; after missed January dates, members advanced contempt resolutions with several Democrats voting in favor.
  • Attorneys for the Clintons had proposed a four-hour transcribed interview for Bill Clinton and a sworn declaration from Hillary Clinton, which Comer rejected.
  • The testimony comes as the Justice Department continues large releases of Epstein-related files; Bill Clinton’s past contacts with Epstein are documented, he denies wrongdoing, and Hillary Clinton says she did not meet or speak with Epstein.
