Climber Dies and Another Injured in 200ft Fall on Ben Nevis

A two-day rescue operation recovered the body of a 22-year-old climber, while a 30-year-old survivor is hospitalized with serious injuries.

  • The 22-year-old climber died at the scene, while the 30-year-old sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
  • The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, involving around 20 members, and the Inverness Coastguard helicopter conducted a complex two-day rescue and recovery operation.
  • Challenging weather conditions, including strong winds and rain, and hazardous terrain complicated the rescue efforts.
  • The injured climber was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital, and a report on the incident will be submitted to the procurator fiscal by Police Scotland.
