Climber Airlifted to Safety After Avalanche on Zugspitze

A 23-year-old climber was swept 500 meters down rocky terrain but survived without being buried and is now hospitalized.

The avalanche occurred at approximately 2700 meters altitude on the Austrian side of the Zugspitze near Ehrwald.
The 23-year-old climber from Landkreis Starnberg was descending the Stopselzieher-Klettersteig route when he was swept away.
Despite being carried 500 meters over rocky terrain, the climber was not buried under the snow mass.
An 18-year-old companion from Landkreis Schweinfurt successfully alerted emergency services and descended to assist his injured partner.
The injured climber was airlifted to a hospital by a medical helicopter and is currently receiving treatment.
