Climate Protesters Interrupt Sigourney Weaver’s West End Performance of 'The Tempest'

Two Just Stop Oil activists halted the play in London, demanding urgent action on fossil fuels as global temperatures exceed critical thresholds.

During a performance of 'The Tempest' at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, two Just Stop Oil protesters climbed on stage with a banner reading 'Over 1.5 Degrees is a Global Shipwreck.'
The disruption, which included a confetti cannon, led to the temporary halting of the play and the escorting of Sigourney Weaver, 75, off the stage.
The protest highlighted concerns over 2024 being the first full year with global temperatures exceeding the 1.5°C threshold, a key target of the Paris Agreement.
Protesters Hayley Walsh, 42, and Richard Weir, 60, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass after turning themselves in to police the following day.
Just Stop Oil called for a global treaty to phase out fossil fuels by 2030, citing escalating climate impacts such as wildfires, floods, and resource scarcity.
