Climate Group Deflates Tires on About 40 Cars in Berlin’s Kollwitzkiez

Police have opened a property-damage investigation after flyers named “The Tyre Extinguishers.”

Overview

  • Residents found roughly 40 vehicles with air released from tire valves on Tuesday morning after an overnight action.
  • Police say only combustion-engine cars were targeted and that many affected vehicles were high-priced SUVs, while electric cars were left untouched.
  • Flyers accusing drivers of endangering the climate, signed by “The Tyre Extinguishers,” were left on windshields, including the message “Achtung – Ihr Spritfresser ist tödlich!”
  • At least seven cars were affected on Kollwitzstraße, with additional cases reported on Oderberger, Schwedter, Gleim and Zionskirch streets.
  • ADAC assisted owners at the scene, and police are seeking witnesses as proceedings for suspected property damage move forward.
