Cleveland Woman, 37, Killed After Short Sheriff’s Pursuit; Suspect Charged

The death is the third fatality in five months linked to Cuyahoga County sheriff’s pursuits.

  • Deputies attempted to stop a car driving without headlights at about 1:16 a.m. near St. Clair Avenue and East 13th Street after a supervisor approved a pursuit.

  • A 24-year-old suspect was arrested on aggravated vehicular homicide and traffic charges after investigators reported finding multiple open alcohol containers in his car.
  • Two passengers in the suspect’s vehicle—an adult woman and a 16-year-old girl—were hospitalized with serious injuries, a male passenger in the victim’s car was evaluated, and a sheriff’s deputy was treated for injuries.
  • The sheriff’s Internal Affairs Unit and Detective Bureau are investigating with assistance from Cleveland police, and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case.
