Cleveland State Forms Panel on WCSB Student Roles as XCSB DJs Secure November Showcase

A new steering committee will outline student opportunities with Ideastream following the Oct. 3 handoff of 89.3 FM programming.

Overview

  • CSU President Laura Bloomberg announced a steering committee with College of Arts and Sciences, Levin College and Ideastream leaders to design internships, capstones, production work, site visits and job shadowing connected to 89.3 FM.
  • Ideastream now programs JazzNEO on 89.3 FM under an operating agreement while CSU keeps the FCC license, with Ideastream covering station and transmitter costs and Bloomberg gaining a seat on Ideastream’s board.
  • Students and community members continue to criticize the move for vague commitments and timing, and a former WCSB student leader said meaningful learning opportunities will not exist this semester.
  • Public pushback has spread to Ideastream’s social channels, where commenters objected to fundraising posts and called for a return of community programming.
  • Displaced DJs operating as XCSB will headline free Save College Radio shows at Happy Dog every Friday in November from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., with a Nov. 7 lineup featuring Beth C, Jackie The Dogwolf, Into The Void and Adam.
