• The Honda Odyssey left an interstate near Chapel Hill on Friday afternoon, hit trees down an embankment and struck a large tree, killing Donald, 55, and Maria Nunney, 50.
• A 9-year-old and a 15-year-old in the van were hospitalized with serious injuries and are expected to recover, according to the Cleveland school district.
• CMSD opened the school year Monday and placed grief counselors at Joseph M. Gallagher Elementary and other sites for students and staff.
• Donald taught at Joseph M. Gallagher Elementary since 1994 and Maria served as a counselor at Wilbur Wright PreK-8, CMSD said.
• The family was in North Carolina to settle their oldest son, Noah, at UNC-Chapel Hill, and he was traveling in a separate vehicle and remained with his siblings at the hospital.
