Cleveland Ohio Temple Dedicated by Elder Bednar
Its opening brings temple ordinances closer for about 12,000 Latter-day Saints in four northeastern Ohio stakes.
Overview
- The Cleveland Ohio Temple was dedicated by Elder David A. Bednar on Aug. 16, 2026, and is now the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ 221st operating temple.
- The single-session dedication was broadcast to meetinghouses in the Cleveland, Akron, Hiram and Kirtland stakes so local members could participate without traveling to the temple.
- A public open house held June 18–July 3, 2026 drew strong local interest and about 800 volunteers, including roughly 200 youth, who helped host visitors from the surrounding communities.
- The temple sits at 5997 Brecksville Road in Independence on an approximately 11-acre site with a 9,950-square-foot building and a 100-foot-high spire, located about 25 miles southwest of the historic Kirtland area.
- Church leaders framed the dedication as a symbolic return to the Kirtland region and said the closer proximity should reduce travel burdens for members, increase access to sacred ordinances, and strengthen local church activity.
