Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Raises Final Beam for Primate Forest, Reveals First Look Inside

The reimagined complex replaces the RainForest with a technology-driven gateway that ties exhibits to conservation-focused learning.

Overview

  • The final-beam milestone marks progress on the CrossCountry Mortgage Forest Home and Primate Forest as the zoo released new interior renderings.
  • Construction renovates more than 63,000 square feet of the former RainForest and adds 33,500 square feet of new space, with completion slated for 2026.
  • Visitor features include the touch-activated Hero Tree entry, a first-floor food court and retail spaces, an Orangutan Adventure Playscape, and a Learning Gallery with a Connections Studio, domed Forest Theater, and Sustainable Future Design Lab.
  • A Care and Conservation Center will showcase behind-the-scenes work with species such as Puerto Rican crested toads, spotted turtles, and Eastern plains garter snakes.
  • The renovated Tropical Forest will welcome back orangutans, gharial crocodiles, and capybaras, and a later phase is planned to create Gorilla Forest for the growing troop with support from Zoo Society fundraising.
