Clearpool, Ripple and Cicada Launch Institutional Lending Plan on XRP Ledger

Devnet testing is underway with RLUSD named as the loan currency while Mainnet activation awaits validator approval of two XRPL amendments.

Overview

  • A joint announcement on Aug. 20 said Clearpool, Ripple and Cicada will build an on‑chain, institution-grade credit layer for business borrowers on the XRP Ledger.
  • Clearpool will supply the lending infrastructure using its Single Asset Vault and Lending Protocol designs, Cicada will originate and service loans, and Ripple will invest as a pari‑passu limited partner.
  • Clearpool has begun end‑to‑end integration tests on XRPL Devnet and plans a technical demo that will show pool creation, borrowing and repayment flows.
  • Loans will be denominated in Ripple’s regulated stablecoin RLUSD, which operates under New York Department of Financial Services oversight and uses Bank of New York custody links to support compliance.
  • Mainnet launch depends on independent validators approving the XLS‑65 and XLS‑66 protocol amendments and on further regulatory and borrower onboarding steps, which remain the key execution risks.
