Overview

  • July’s full moon, known as the Buck Moon because male deer antlers reach full growth in July, will peak at 3:37 p.m. Central Daylight Time on Thursday, July 10, though it will be most vivid after sunset.
  • AccuWeather forecasts clear, humid conditions with a low of 70°F in Wichita on the night of July 10, and moonrise is expected at 9:18 p.m. CDT.
  • The Perseid meteor shower runs from July 14 to September 1 and peaks around August 12–13, but its waning gibbous moon phase may limit sightings to the brightest meteors.
  • Stargazers have five more full moons to look forward to this year on August 9, September 7, October 6, November 5, and December 4.
  • The Kansas Astronomical Observers will meet from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Lake Afton Public Observatory for announcements and public stargazing, weather permitting.
