Overview

  • The pilot went live Tuesday at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, with Reagan National set for next week and Seattle-Tacoma the week of Aug. 31.
  • E-gates verify a traveler’s identity and screening status in real time using biometrics and a boarding pass, letting verified users bypass the TSA podium and proceed to physical screening.
  • Access is limited to CLEAR+ members, a paid program priced at about $209 per year.
  • TSA retains operational control of the gates, while CLEAR says it cannot access watchlists, override gate decisions, or manually open gates and transmits only limited data.
  • CLEAR plans to expand the technology to at least 30 additional airports over the next few years, with current gates offering a shortcut today and more automation envisioned later.
