• Two months after his death at 88, the director was buried Friday at the Dorotheenstädtischer Friedhof in Berlin’s Mitte district.
• Family, friends and figures from the theater community attended, including Leander Haußmann, culture senator Sarah Wedl-Wilson and Frank Castorf.
• Mourners honored him at the graveside as his coffin was covered with confetti and flowers.
• Earlier this week in Vienna, his coffin was driven once around the Burgtheater, where he was director from 1986 to 1999.
• The Berliner Ensemble, which he led until 2017, will honor him with a commemorative matinée on October 26.
