Overview
- The Water Environment Federation selected President Claudia Sheinbaum as one of three recipients of its Public Officials Award for leadership in water management.
- The award will be presented at WEFTEC in Chicago on September 29, 2025.
- WEF highlighted more than 62,000 home rainwater-harvesting systems that empowered marginalized communities and reduced burdens on women.
- It credited strategic projects that expanded potable-water capacity by 1,658 liters per second and public–private partnerships that stabilized supply during critical periods.
- The recognition also cited a national agreement targeting recovery of 3 billion cubic meters of water, technification of 200,000 hectares of irrigation districts, planning of 17 strategic projects, and commitments to clean the Santiago-Lerma, Tula and Atoyac rivers.
