Overview
- Anthropic enabled Claude to draft, reply to, send, and forward Gmail messages through its Google Workspace connector on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 18–19, 2026.
- By default Claude requires a human approval step before sending or forwarding an email, but Team and Enterprise owners can configure accounts to allow those actions to run without per-message approval.
- The feature requires users to connect their Gmail account and is limited to paid Claude plans, so availability depends on plan level and account settings.
- The new send capability builds on Claude’s existing ability to search inboxes, summarise threads, and access Calendar and Drive, closing a gap that lets the assistant complete end-to-end email tasks but raises risks such as context errors and accidental disclosure if the AI misinterprets messages.
- The change follows a wider industry move toward action-capable assistants and will put pressure on admin controls, audit logs, and workplace policies as teams balance efficiency gains against governance and privacy concerns.
