Clashes in Dearborn After Jan. 6 Figure’s Attempted Quran Burning Is Thwarted

Community leaders called the attempted burning of a religious text an act of hate.

Overview

  • Jake Lang, identified as a Jan. 6 participant, led an anti-Muslim demonstration in Dearborn where he repeatedly tried to burn a Quran before counter-protesters stopped him and recovered the book.
  • Lang delivered explicit anti-Muslim and white supremacist rhetoric during the protest and later marched with supporters toward City Hall.
  • He spray-painted the word “cuck” on gubernatorial candidate Anthony Hudson’s campaign bus and claimed he had legally obtained the vehicle from a former Hudson staffer.
  • Hudson organized a separate demonstration and told Michigan’s CAIR chapter he had abandoned plans for an anti-Muslim protest after visiting local mosques.
  • Dearborn police maintained a visible presence, reported one arrest and no injuries, and counter-protesters prayed outside City Hall and refuted false claims that the city follows Sharia law.
