Clashes Erupt at Aurillac Street Theatre Festival as Eight Police Are Injured

Overview

  • Roughly 300 people, some masked, vandalized bus shelters and shops, threw projectiles and paving stones, and erected barricades in the city center.
  • CRS units used tear gas and pushed the most aggressive groups into adjacent streets during the night.
  • At least eight officers were injured in the confrontations, and the Cantal prefecture condemned what it called unacceptable acts.
  • Aurillac mayor Pierre Mathonier denounced the attackers as “black blocs” and criticized the damage to the town and the festival.
