Claims Open for $500 Million Loblaw Bread Price-Fixing Settlement

Canadians who bought packaged bread can file without receipts through Dec. 12, 2025 under a court-approved deal blending cash payments with earlier gift cards.

Overview

  • Eligible residents who purchased packaged bread for personal use between 2001 and 2021 can file at CanadianBreadSettlement.ca (outside Quebec) or QuebecBreadSettlement.ca (Quebec).
  • The settlement totals $500 million, combining $404 million in new payments from Loblaw and George Weston with $96 million previously issued via Loblaw gift cards.
  • After fees, 78% of net funds go to class members outside Quebec and 22% to Quebec claimants, following approvals in Ontario and Quebec courts.
  • Proof of purchase is not required, but claimants must sign a declaration; those who never took the $25 Loblaw gift card are expected to receive up to $25, while prior cardholders only get an additional amount if funds allow and it exceeds the $5 minimum.
  • Payouts are expected six to 12 months after the Dec. 12, 2025 deadline, business-resale funds are held in trust for later court direction, and related class actions continue against Metro, Sobeys, Walmart Canada, Canada Bread and Giant Tiger.
