Clacton Shop Fire Guts Building, Forcing Remembrance Parade Detour

Firefighters from five stations contained the blaze by early afternoon, with the cause recorded as accidental.

Overview

  • Flames broke out shortly before 8:30am in a Station Road shop under renovation and spread to two unoccupied flats above.
  • Crews from Clacton, Weeley, Colchester, Brightlingsea and Coggeshall responded and prevented further spread.
  • The shop and the two flats were badly damaged, and smoke affected two neighboring flats and the nearby Sports Direct store.
  • Station Road was closed during the response, and Tendring District Council and Essex Police arranged an alternative route for the Remembrance parade.
  • The fire was extinguished around 12:30–12:34pm, and Station Manager Nick Singleton praised crews for their swift work.
