CL Referred to Prosecutors Over Alleged Unregistered Agency as Kang Dong-won Is Cleared

Prosecutors will now assess potential charges under a law that mandates entertainment agency registration, following a months-long compliance push.

Overview

  • Seoul Yongsan Police sent CL (Lee Chae-rin) and her one-person agency Very Cherry to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office without detention for alleged violations of the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act.
  • Police said Very Cherry operated without registration for about five years and seven months after its establishment in February 2020.
  • The CEO of AA Group, which represents actor Kang Dong-won, was also referred for allegedly operating unregistered for about two years and nine months.
  • Kang Dong-won was cleared after investigators found he did not participate in the management or operation of his agency.
  • Operating an unregistered agency can bring up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won, and the case follows a September 2025 complaint and a government registration guidance period that ran through December 31, 2025.
