Overview
- Operation Grecofar was led by the Civil Guard’s Judicial Police Unit with support from Spain’s pharmacists’ council and Madrid’s regional pharmaceutical inspectorate.
- The probe began after a large haul of medicines was intercepted at a Benavente parcel company and tracked to falsified private electronic prescriptions.
- According to police, one suspect fabricated and sold the prescriptions, a collaborator marketed them via messaging apps, and “money mules” routed the proceeds through bank accounts.
- A home search in Majadahonda yielded large quantities of medications, narcotics, forged prescriptions and medical stamps, as well as computer equipment.
- Arrests were made across 13 provinces including Alicante, A Coruña, Ávila, Barcelona, Burgos, the Balearic Islands, Granada, Madrid, Málaga, Salamanca, Santander, Valencia and Bizkaia, and the detainees and seized material were brought before the Majadahonda court.
