Civ VII Targets Spring for Free 'Test of Time' Overhaul Restoring Single‑Civ Play

Firaxis is promising a free, expansion‑sized revamp shaped by community playtests ahead of a tentative spring release.

Overview

  • Before the overhaul, Update 1.3.2 is set to arrive soon with nested tooltips, civ balance tweaks, tile usefulness display, and reworks to AI diplomacy and coastal raids.
  • The 1.3.2 update also adds Gilgamesh as a free leader for all players as an anniversary gift.
  • Test of Time introduces an option to remain with one civilization at each end‑of‑age transition, with AI empires making similar stick‑or‑switch decisions.
  • Apex Ages and Syncretism aim to keep long‑running civs fresh by granting a civ’s full unique kit in its peak era and letting players adopt another civ’s unique unit or infrastructure once per age.
  • Victories are being reworked as Legacy Paths are removed in favor of a new Triumphs system and more varied Military, Economy, Culture, and Science win routes, with timing and features subject to change through the Firaxis Feature Workshop.
