Overview

  • The City of London Planning Committee granted final planning approval on July 8 for a 30-storey office tower at 85 Gracechurch Street and a 46-storey tower at 63 St Mary Axe.
  • Revised plans for 85 Gracechurch Street include a basement exhibition showcasing a near-2,000-year-old Roman basilica uncovered by MOLA and a public walkway offering close-up views.
  • The 63 St Mary Axe scheme by AXA IM Alts features a new public park, auditorium, food and beverage spots and an exposed section of the ancient Roman city wall.
  • Together the developments will deliver more than 110,000 square metres of sustainable Grade A office space and generate over 6,500 jobs in the City’s financial district.
  • Developers Hertshten Properties and AXA IM Alts collaborated with the City Corporation and Historic England to adjust designs after archaeological finds and heritage objections.
