City National Bank Appoints Howard Hammond as New CEO, Kelly Coffey to Lead Entertainment Unit
In a strategic shift, the bank known for its Hollywood connections taps Fifth Third veteran Hammond as CEO, while former CEO Coffey will head the newly created entertainment unit, effective Nov. 27.
- Howard Hammond, a 17-year veteran of Fifth Third Bancorp, has been appointed as the new CEO of City National Bank, replacing Kelly Coffey who will now lead the bank's newly created entertainment unit.
- Hammond, who has over 30 years of experience in the banking industry, will relocate to Los Angeles and report to Greg Carmichael, the former CEO of Fifth Third Bancorp, who was named executive chair of City National's board of directors in September.
- Hammond's previous roles at Fifth Third included executive vice president and head of consumer banking, overseeing 8,000 employees and more than 1,000 branches. He was also the president and CEO of Fifth Third Securities.
- Coffey, who has been the CEO of City National for five years, will leverage her experience and relationships to bring City National and RBC's expertise to the bank's entertainment clients. JaHan Wang, City National's current executive vice president of entertainment banking, will report to Coffey.
- The changes come as City National, known as the 'bank to the stars' due to its extensive Hollywood connections, seeks to focus more on its entertainment client base across TV, film, music, theater, touring and related sectors.
