Cities Enforce Temporary Traffic Curbs for Durga Puja

Police have issued time‑bound road closures, one‑way routings and parking bans to reduce evening congestion and keep emergency lanes open.

Overview

  • Traffic restrictions are in force across multiple cities for Durga Puja, with Delhi and Guwahati enforcing curbs from Oct. 16–20 and Shillong running sector controls Oct. 17–20 plus immersion rules on Oct. 21.
  • Delhi has blocked private vehicles from entering Chittaranjan Park and Greater Kailash‑II from 4 pm to midnight daily and warned that unauthorised parking may lead to towing and legal action.
  • Guwahati has set one‑way stretches and parking bans, allowed goods vehicles into the city only between 4 am and noon, and applied additional limits in several areas from 2 pm to 2 am each day.
  • Authorities have published alternative bus routes, designated metro drop‑off points and public helplines while instructing traffic staff to prioritise emergency vehicles and carry out enforcement.
  • Police warn of peak evening delays, especially between about 7 pm and 11 pm, and are urging commuters to use public transport, start journeys early and follow diversion signs to avoid long detours.
