CISF Seizes 21 kg Cannabis at Imphal Airport as Delhi Reports Rs 6.5 Crore Ganja Haul

Officials describe stepped-up airport screening as part of a coordinated push against narcotics trafficking routes.

Overview

  • Two Delhi-bound passengers were stopped at Imphal airport on September 29, where CISF detected 21.36 kg of ganja concealed in luggage and handed the suspects and contraband to Singjamei Police.
  • The detainees, aged 20 and 21 from Imphal West, were set to board Air India Express flight IX-1143; CISF says one carried 10 kg and the other 11.3 kg, valued at about Rs 20–21 lakh.
  • At Delhi’s IGI airport a day earlier, Customs arrested two Indian nationals who arrived from Bangkok after x-ray checks found 13 packets containing 6,554 g of a green substance that tested prima facie as ganja, valued at roughly Rs 6.5 crore.
  • CISF credits random screening and diversion for checks at Imphal, while IGI officials cite spot profiling that flagged the Bangkok arrivals for baggage examination.
  • Authorities also point to coordinated Northeast actions, with an earlier Assam Rifles–NCB operation in Manipur’s Chandel recovering 67.26 kg of WY tablets worth about Rs 53.8 crore for handover to NCB.
