CIS and CSTO Conclude Integrated Counterterrorism–Peacekeeping Drills in Tajikistan

CSTO leaders say lessons will shape peacekeeping force makeup to bolster Central Asia security.

Overview

  • The final stage on October 24 at the Fakhrabad training ground merged the CIS Commonwealth Anti-Terror 2025 with the CSTO’s Indestructible Brotherhood 2025 and Barrier 2025 exercises.
  • About 1,500 personnel from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan trained alongside CIS security bodies from Armenia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan using more than 200 units of equipment.
  • Troops rehearsed ceasefire enforcement, checkpoint security, refugee reception, humanitarian convoy escort and protection, mountain operations, medevac support and counter‑UAV measures.
  • Counterterrorism scenarios included a hostage rescue on a Yak‑40 aircraft and riot control drills conducted by Tajik security services with CSTO peacekeepers.
  • Organizers said this was the first integrated exercise of CIS special services with CSTO peacekeepers, framed Tajikistan’s long Afghan border as the rationale and pledged to use results to refine joint training and force composition.
