Circle Posts Surging USDC Activity as Revenue Growth Slows

Falling reserve yields with large partner payouts have squeezed the company's income with Arc's Sept. 16 mainnet and the renewed Coinbase arrangement set to shape near-term margins.

Overview

  • Circle disclosed on Aug. 5 that USDC on-chain transaction volume hit $14.8 trillion in Q2, a 151% year-over-year increase, while USDC circulation ended the quarter at $73.3 billion.
  • Total revenue and reserve income rose 7% to $701.3 million for the quarter but missed consensus estimates, even as adjusted earnings per share beat forecasts.
  • Reserve income rose to $668 million but was constrained by a drop in the reserve return rate to about 3.5%, and Circle paid $412 million in distribution, transaction and other costs.
  • Circle renewed its Coinbase collaboration for three more years through 2029, reported Coinbase held roughly 30% of USDC at quarter end, and management said it will not start quarterly dividends to preserve capital for growth.
  • Circle has recognized Arc token presale proceeds and set the Arc public mainnet launch for Sept. 16, while investors and analysts now focus on reserve yields, partner economics and Arc execution as drivers of future margins.
