Cineworld to Permanently Close Six More UK Cinemas Following Restructuring

The closures are part of a financial overhaul aimed at reducing debt and stabilizing operations after pandemic losses and industry challenges.

Cineworld has announced the permanent closure of six additional UK locations: Castleford, Leigh, Middlesbrough, Northampton, Poole, and Weymouth.
These closures follow a restructuring plan launched in July 2024, which had already resulted in five UK cinemas shutting earlier this year.
The company cited pandemic-related losses, competition from streaming services, and reduced movie supply due to Hollywood strikes as factors behind its financial struggles.
Cineworld has renegotiated rents at approximately 50 locations and secured £40 million in liquidity to improve its financial stability.
Despite the closures, Cineworld plans to invest £35 million into refurbishing its remaining 90 UK cinemas to enhance customer experience.
