Overview
- The Construction Industry Development Board formally removed Moriel Infrastructure Group from the national register effective 15 October 2026, a move announced by Public Works Minister Dean Macpherson on Tuesday.
- The CIDB investigation into Moriel began in 2025 and included a further formal notice served on 11 September 2026 after concerns that the company misrepresented its financial and technical capacity to obtain higher gradings.
- Owner Lawrence Mudzinganyama faces a separate criminal case that grew after a social media video circulated in September; he was arrested on 20 September, granted R10,000 bail on 1 October and now faces 10 charges with a court appearance set for 30 October.
- Macpherson said the action is part of a broader enforcement shift that has led to 75 companies being blacklisted since June 2024 compared with one between 2002 and June 2024, and the CIDB will strengthen independent checks and refer suspected fraud to police.
- CIDB gradings decide which public construction jobs firms may bid for, so removing a contractor limits its access to state work and aims to protect project quality, taxpayer money and the safety of built infrastructure.
