Church Sets Nov. 22 Site Dedication to Begin Construction of First Latter-day Saint Temple in Belgium

The temple will be built inside an existing multistory structure in central Brussels, reflecting an adaptive reuse approach.

Overview

  • The First Presidency announced the date on Oct. 20, confirming the formal start of the construction phase.
  • Elder Jack N. Gerard, a General Authority Seventy and first counselor in the Europe Central Area presidency, will preside over the ceremony.
  • Because the project occupies an existing building at Avenue des Arts 52, the dedication will be held indoors and there will be no traditional groundbreaking.
  • Plans call for approximately 25,500 square feet of temple space with a meetinghouse and arrival facilities within the same building.
  • The Brussels temple, announced by President Russell M. Nelson in April 2021, will serve nearly 7,000 Latter-day Saints in two stakes across 12 congregations in Belgium.
