Overview
- Sister missionaries currently at Temple Square will be assigned to surrounding Utah missions and will split time between local teaching areas and Temple Square service.
- The transition is slated for completion by July 2026, at which point the Utah Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission will be discontinued.
- The approach mirrors models used at 13 other temple visitors’ centers and is intended to enhance the guest experience as preparations continue for the 2027 open house.
- A member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will continue assigning new missionaries to Temple Square, and some returned missionaries will be hired as part-time guides.
- Leaders say the shift enables flexible staffing during peak periods such as summer and Christmas, with missionaries traveling by public transit or vehicle to meet demand.
