Church Counts 200 Temples Announced Under Russell M. Nelson, Who Died at 101

New tallies detail how his temple program reshaped the Church’s global footprint.

  • From January 2018 to Sept. 27, 2025, Nelson announced 200 new temple locations, averaging one announcement every 14.1 days.
  • As of Sept. 29, 2025, the 200 include 28 dedicated, 4 scheduled for dedication, 56 under construction, 2 with groundbreakings scheduled, 29 with sites and renderings, 17 with sites only, and 64 in planning.
  • Those 200 account for 52.4% of the Church’s 382 total temple locations tracked worldwide, including dedicated, under construction, and announced sites.
  • He announced new temples in each of 15 general conferences, with all but one made in conference sessions and most at the close of Sunday afternoon; the exception was the women’s session in October 2019.
  • The announcements span 73 in the United States and 109 internationally, reaching 28 first‑temple nations or territories and six first‑temple U.S. states, with the largest national totals in the United States (73), Brazil (14), Mexico (14) and the Philippines (10).
