- GWAR bassist Casey Orr confirmed late Friday that Chuck Varga died peacefully with his wife Bambi at his side after a battle with cancer.
- Varga co-founded Slave Pit Studios in Richmond and created the Sexecutioner character that defined much of GWAR’s grotesque, costume-driven stage world.
- He left full-time touring in 1997 for work in New York and later founded Hyperreal Productions, but he returned to perform with GWAR at various points through 2022.
- In April the band made Varga’s cancer diagnosis public and in June organized a fundraiser and a nationwide blood-donation campaign to help cover his medical and caregiving costs.
