Christopher Nolan Elected President of the Directors Guild of America

The Oscar-winning filmmaker steps in as the guild concentrates on set safety, California incentives and foreign streaming residuals ahead of its 2026 contract expiration.

Overview

  • Nolan was chosen at the DGA’s biennial convention by 167 delegates representing more than 19,500 members, succeeding two-term president Lesli Linka Glatter.
  • Alongside Nolan, members elected Laura Belsey as National Vice President and re-elected Paris Barclay as Secretary-Treasurer, with Todd Holland, Ron Howard, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Seith Mann, Millicent Shelton, Lily Olszewski and Joyce Thomas in vice president and treasurer roles.
  • The AMPTP congratulated Nolan and said it looks forward to partnering with him on issues important to DGA members.
  • Recent DGA policy work includes lobbying in Sacramento for a pilot set-safety supervisor program tied to the state tax credit and efforts to broaden California’s film and TV incentives.
  • The current DGA contract runs through June 30, 2026, and Nolan pledged to work with the board on creative and economic protections as the guild prepares for its next bargaining cycle.
