Christiane Tietz Takes Office as President of Evangelical Church in Hessen and Nassau

Theologian and former professor Christiane Tietz succeeds Volker Jung, emphasizing dialogue and reform in her new role.

Christiane Tietz was formally introduced as the new president of the Evangelical Church in Hessen and Nassau (EKHN) during a ceremony in Wiesbaden's Lutherkirche.
She succeeds Volker Jung, who served as EKHN president for 16 years and was honored with the Hessian Order of Merit upon his retirement.
Tietz, previously a professor of systematic theology in Zurich, was elected with strong support from the church synod in September 2024.
In her inaugural address, Tietz called for open conversations on religion and politics, warning against the dangers of silence and divisive rhetoric.
The EKHN, representing 1.3 million members across Hessen and Rheinland-Pfalz, is undergoing a reform process due to declining membership and financial challenges.
