Christian Petzold Honored at Max Ophüls Film Festival

The acclaimed German director will receive the Tribute Award, host a masterclass, and engage in public discussions during the January 2025 festival.

Christian Petzold, a celebrated German filmmaker, is being recognized with the Tribute Award at the 46th Max Ophüls Film Festival in Saarbrücken.
The festival highlights Petzold's long-standing connection to Saarbrücken, where his early works premiered and received accolades in the 1990s.
During the festival from January 20–26, 2025, three of Petzold's films will be screened, followed by audience discussions.
Petzold will also lead a masterclass for emerging directors and participate in a public Tribute Talk open to all attendees.
Known for over 20 films and numerous awards, including a 2023 Berlinale Silver Bear for 'Roter Himmel,' Petzold's work explores themes of love, death, and societal structures with a distinctive narrative style.
