Christian Fundamentalists Storm Drag King Reading in Auckland Library

A group from the Destiny Church disrupted a Pride event, prompting children and teens to barricade themselves as police intervened.

Approximately 50 members of the Destiny Church, led by fundamentalist pastor Brian Tamaki, stormed a library in Auckland during a Drag King reading for children and teens.
The event, part of Pride celebrations, featured Drag King Hugo Grrrl performing a musical reading for around 30 attendees, including young children.
Videos circulated online show the attackers forcing their way into the building, clashing with attendees, and performing a Haka, a traditional Maori dance, outside the barricaded library room.
A 16-year-old girl sustained a concussion, and her 20-year-old sister was injured while trying to protect the event; police are investigating the attackers for assault.
Auckland's mayor condemned the incident as unacceptable, while the attackers later confronted participants of a nearby Pride parade, continuing their demonstrations.
