Chris Dreja, Founding Guitarist of the Yardbirds, Dies at 79

Family confirmed the news on Threads following a prolonged illness.

  • Sister-in-law Muriel Levy announced his death on Threads, saying he passed away after years of health problems and acknowledging care from his sister Kate and daughter Jackie.
  • Former bandmate Jimmy Page posted a tribute on Instagram, noting Dreja’s roles on rhythm guitar and bass with the Yardbirds.
  • A co-founder of the Yardbirds in 1963, Dreja moved from rhythm guitar to bass and contributed songwriting and album artwork, including the Roger the Engineer cover drawing.
