Chris Brown Given Suspended Jail Term for Mayfair Bottle Attack

Judge Tony Baumgartner said Brown’s fame does not entitle him to special treatment, leaving him under court supervision rather than sending him straight to prison.

Overview

  • The court sentenced Chris Brown on Monday, October 26, 2026 to eight months’ imprisonment suspended for 12 months so he will not go to prison immediately but will be subject to supervision and can be jailed if he breaches the sentence.
  • The attack took place on 19 February 2023 in the Tape nightclub in Mayfair, where CCTV shown at Southwark Crown Court captured Brown striking music producer Abraham “Abe” Diaw several times with a tequila bottle and injuring his head.
  • Brown pleaded guilty in July 2026 to the offence of affray after prosecutors dropped more serious charges such as attempted grievous bodily harm.
  • Omololu Akinlolu, described in court as Brown’s vocal coach, was found to have kicked the victim and received a four-month suspended sentence from the same judge.
  • Brown was arrested only when he returned to the UK in May 2025 and was released on a £5 million surety that allowed his world tour to continue, and the judge referenced Brown’s earlier violent convictions from 2009 and 2013 when explaining the sentence.
