Overview

  • A two-vehicle crash on eastbound Highway 84 west of I-880 around 5:28 p.m. Tuesday prompted a witness to report a gunshot and a motorist to arrive at a local hospital with an arm wound.
  • CHP Hayward Area office officials said the Highway 84 shooting stemmed from a road-rage confrontation and closed eastbound lanes from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. for evidence collection.
  • Authorities have not identified or located the suspect in the Highway 84 case, which remains under active investigation.
  • On Wednesday at about 5:18 p.m., a witness reported an occupant of one vehicle firing at another on westbound I-580 near 98th Avenue in Oakland, prompting a brief pursuit before officers arrived.
  • Officers later found the suspect’s vehicle parked empty near Brockhurst and Market streets in Oakland and confirmed no injuries resulted from the I-580 shooting.
