CHP Launches Statewide New Year’s Maximum Enforcement From 6 p.m. Dec. 31 Through Jan. 1

The 30-hour crackdown targets impaired drivers, with rainy conditions heightening safety concerns.

  • All available officers will patrol statewide to enforce DUI, speeding, distracted driving and seat-belt laws during the Holiday Enforcement Period.
  • The deployment runs from 6 p.m. Dec. 31 to 11:59 p.m. Jan. 1 under the CHP’s maximum enforcement posture.
  • Local agencies, including the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and multiple city police departments, are augmenting efforts with saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints.
  • CHP points to last New Year’s totals of 10 fatal crashes and 481 DUI arrests, along with 297 DUI arrests during the recent Christmas operation, to underscore the risk.
  • With rain expected, officers will also prioritize clearing disabled vehicles and crash scenes, and the public is urged to plan a sober ride and report suspected impaired drivers via 911.
