Overview

  • The army-aligned health ministry reported 172 deaths and more than 2,700 infections in seven days across six states, with 90 percent of cases in Khartoum state.
  • Khartoum and its twin city Omdurman remain the epicenter, while North Kordofan, Sennar, Gazira, White Nile and Nile River provinces have also logged cases.
  • Doctors Without Borders treated nearly 2,000 suspected cholera patients last week and warns that overcrowded clinics are struggling to save those arriving too late for care.
  • Drone strikes by the Rapid Support Forces on power stations have triggered blackouts that cripple water pumping facilities and drive residents to unsafe Nile water.
  • Health authorities and international agencies are calling for expanded water, sanitation and hygiene programs and additional treatment centers to contain the outbreak.
