Chivite Names Remírez First Vice President, Jurío to Interior in Targeted Cabinet Reset

Chivite casts the PSN-only shake-up as a reset to steady her coalition under continuing scrutiny of the Belate tunnel award.

Overview

  • Félix Taberna and Amparo López were removed from the first vice presidency and the Interior portfolio, respectively, in the most significant remodel since 2019.
  • Javier Remírez, a PSN veteran and current senator, returns as first vice president, government spokesperson, and head of Presidency and Equality.
  • Inma Jurío, formerly a regional lawmaker and senior official at the Government Delegation in Navarra, takes over Interior, Public Function and Justice.
  • Chivite says the changes aim to give the government a new political impulse for the roughly 15 months left in the term, and coalition partners did not seek alterations to their areas.
  • The move comes as scrutiny of the Belate tunnels contract continues, with UCO findings linking Servinabar to ex-PSOE figure Santos Cerdán; in December the public works director was dismissed and opposition parties keep pressing for Óscar Chivite to resign.
