Chirang Police Seize Wildlife Parts and Weapons in Late-Night Raid

Authorities are probing connections to a wider trafficking network following the seizure of elephant tusks, tiger parts, pangolin skin and firearms components

Overview

  • Police carried out a tip-off prompted raid on the night of July 15–16 and arrested Pradip Narzary, Samar Singh Basumatary, Kanchan Daimary and Binanshree Basumatary
  • Officers recovered bones of wild animals, a suspected elephant tusk, tiger tongue and fur, pangolin skin and 20 porcupine quills
  • Investigators found materials for crafting firearms, including iron pipes, a pistol grip, bullet rounds, springs and an electric drilling machine
  • The four suspects were taken to Bijni Police Station and remanded to judicial custody as the case remains under active investigation
  • Officials have not ruled out that the seized items are linked to a larger illegal wildlife trade network operating in Assam’s border areas
