Chipotle Relaunches Pollo Asado and Debuts Chili Lime Chips

The chain is pairing a refreshed adobo-and-citrus chicken with a Rewards-first chip made from a viral fan hack to drive trial through limited access and short-term promotions.

Overview

  • Pollo Asado returned Monday and is available nationwide in the U.S. and Canada for a limited time with a new adobo-citrus recipe featuring grilled adobo chicken, garlic, Mexican spices, hand-cut cilantro and a citrus finish.
  • Chili Lime Chips launched for Chipotle Rewards members on Aug. 31 and will be offered to all customers beginning Sept. 4 as a limited-time side inspired by a viral customer hack.
  • Chipotle is promoting the rollout with tiered digital access and incentives, including free delivery on qualifying Pollo Asado orders placed through the app and website through Sept. 13.
  • The company says the chips contain no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and cites a large rise in social-media posts pairing seasoned chips with its meals as the reason for making the idea an official product.
  • A pre-launch social-media mention by rapper Cardi B helped amplify publicity for the chips, and Chipotle framed the simultaneous launches as a novel move to convert fan behavior into menu innovation.
